Wise Words From the Dalai Lama

I was able to see the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, speak today at the Viejas Arena at San Diego State! Let me just say, the crowd was truly amazing.  And as someone who has worked, seen, heard and listened to the words of several different religious groups speak, the atmosphere in the arena was drastically different today then it has ever been.

I wish I could say that I took a lot from the lecture, but I am not sure if it was just my hearing or the maybe it was his microphone but I could only make out  few words of his lecture every few minutes.  I am planning on watching it online where they can enhance the audio quality.

SDSU students were excited for it, tickets sold out in less than a day.

“Afflictive emotions – our jealousy, anger, hatred, fear – can be put to an end. When you realize that these emotions are only temporary, that they always pass on like clouds in the sky, you also realize they can ultimately be abandoned.”

Forever21 Wants You To Know that “Jesus Loves You”

So upon blog surfing I ran across this number by Sean, his latest post regarding Forver21’s new line of Christian wear. Read his post here

Being the naive shopper that I am, I never stopped to think who the people were that sold me my super cheap, semi cute, ill fitting clothes at Forever21, and apparently they are Christian.  At WTForever21  Rachel Kane received a picture from a reader in London regarding their new line of clothes, and boy did Rachel have something to say about it.

Some of the Funny/Awesome things she says:

  1. “In itself, standing alone, the phrase, “Jesus Loves Me” or the word “Holy” splattered across a cheap crop top and worn by some pre-teen Bible thumper doesn’t bother me. I don’t care about your religion. That is, until you use it to make me feel uncomfortable or in a way I think may be preachy.”
  2. ” I believe this is a good sampling of the Christian clothing crusade.”
  3. ‘ You are no longer in a store. Welcome to the Sunday morning service you did not sign up for. Now get to prayin’ sinner!’

God will save your soul.

I wonder how many times a day they pray..

–Begin Rant– Warning ! I am aware religion is a touchy subject, and you should be aware too. If you think everyone will have the same opinion as you do then you can turn back now.
I am completely with her on this, I hate hearing “Bible thumpers” (I call them Bible Huggers) talk about how much God has saved them, or what it has done for them.  I can’t stand people posting church/scripture/holy stuff all over Facebook. It’s not like I scroll through your info and find out your religion before I add you, and I am not going to delete you for blowing up my “Most Recent” with crap I don’t care about.  I would rather hear about how you burnt your toast this morning than your night at youth group.
I don’t claim any religion as you can tell. I believe in morality and being a kind, caring person not because it will get me to heaven but because it’s the right thing to do.  I’m not going to lie, I can be a bit bitchy and bit cold at times maybe even rude..but I’m compassionate where I see necessary and I don’t need a handbook to do it.
**I’m young and I have friends who go to youth groups and church and preach their devotion to God, but that kid is also shmoozing down booze at a house party on friday and throwing pennies at homeless people in Seattle. True Story.**
I decided to attend Steubenville this year to see what all the hype was about, maybe I was missing something or I wasn’t seeing what everyone else was seeing in this God stuff, but all it did was make me laugh.  I saw 12 – 15 year olds stampede to “confessions” to be forgiven..what do you have to be forgiven for at 14 years old? They told these kids that Planned Parenthood was the Devil (yes they said the Devil, because only the devil would want you to kill your brother and sisters…) and it’s also the Abortion Clinic..I wonder if they stopped to think that it is also a low income health clinic and they don’t just suck out babies all day….
—End Rant—

Ok, this post didn’t go quite as I had planned. I realize it is pretty much a rant.  So excuse the rant I really want to know what you think about blatant Christian advertising in retail stores?

*one more thing, I would be semi ok with seeing them if they made me laugh. Gah they’re all so boring. I mean Budhism has a fat happy man with large earlobes…*
